Morning Adventure: The Train Ride to Turin

The day began early as we caught a train from the nearby station to Turin, just a short ride away. As we arrived in this historically rich city, the first order of business was to start the day the Italian way, with a heavenly cappuccino at a local café. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee filled the air, and we sipped our drinks slowly, savoring the moment as many locals do.

10 AM: The Guided Bike Tour Begins

After this reposeful start, it was time to get active. We joined a group of five other couples who had also registered for a guided bike tour, a fantastic way to explore Turin's many gems. Our journey began a few streets from Piazza San Carlo, where our tour guide, Francesco, greeted us with a warm smile and a stack of shiny bicycles. As we adjusted our bikes, Francesco introduced himself and shared a brief history of Turin, known for its royal past and its pivotal role in Italian history.

Our first stop on the tour was the grandeur of Piazza San Carlo, located in the heart of Turin, is renowned for its stunning Baroque architecture and historical significance. The square is often called the "lounge of Turin" due to its elegant cafes and vibrant atmosphere, making it a popular spot for tourists to relax and enjoy the city's culture.

Second stop was the grandeur of Piazza Castello, where the majestic Royal Palace and Palazzo Madama stood as silent witnesses to centuries of history. Francesco regaled us with fascinating stories about Turin's royal past and its significance in Italian history.

Afterward, we hopped back on our bikes and pedaled along the banks of the Po River, enjoying picturesque views of its bridges and serene parks.  Francesco then surprised us with a detour to Valentino Park, a lush oasis in the heart of the city. We explored the park's beautiful gardens, admired the stunning architecture of Valentino Castle, and even enjoyed a peaceful moment by the tranquil lake.

Our adventure continued as we ventured deeper into Turin's historic districts, all the while listening to Francesco’s engaging narratives about the city's rich history and culture. We coasted through charming neighborhoods, passing quaint boutiques, elegant cafés, and local markets. The scent of freshly baked bread and aromatic coffee filled the air, making our journey even more delightful.

1:30 PM:

After an engaging morning of exploration, the tour came to a close, and we said goodbye to the other couples and our wonderful guide. Hungry and ready to relax, we found a charming restaurant with a beautiful terrace to enjoy a leisurely lunch. The traditional Piedmontese cuisine, including delicate pastas and rich sauces, was a delightful treat for our taste buds. Over a glass of local wine, we reflected on the morning's adventures and enjoyed the serene ambiance of Turin.

Afternoon:

With satisfied appetites, we strolled through Turin's charming streets. The city's historic architecture, chic boutiques, and quaint shops invited us to indulge in a bit of shopping. From fine chocolates to stylish fashion, Turin offered a little something for everyone. We wandered through the bustling streets, taking in the vibrant atmosphere of this captivating city.

6 PM:

As the afternoon sun began to descend, we made our way to the Turin train station, where we would catch our train back to Festina Lente. The station's grand architecture reflected the city's historic charm, and we had time to admire its beauty before boarding our train.
As we settled into our seats on the train, we couldn't help but reflect on our unforgettable day in Turin. The guided bike tour had not only given us a glimpse into the city's rich history and culture but also allowed us to discover the hidden gem that was Valentino Park.
